Headteacher Message, School Values & Vision
Broomhaugh Church of England First School is at the heart of the local community and a very special place to learn and grow.
We love spending time outdoors! Forest School is firmly embedded in our curriculum and its principles of exploration and child-initiated learning help our children to grow in confidence whilst learning to respect our natural world.
Our team of dedicated staff work hard to provide engaging lessons that inspire our children to take their subjects beyond the classroom and develop a lifelong love of learning.
We have the Christian values of respect, forgiveness, truth, thankfulness and kindness guiding us in all we do, helping us to be courageous advocates who make a difference in our local community and the wider world.
‘Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.’ 1 John 3:18
Through high expectations and encouragement, we empower our children to believe in themselves and be the best they can be!
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and find out about our wonderful school.
Mrs. Suzanne Hart
Executive Headteacher
Many of you will choose our school because we are your local school, or because we are a Church
school, or because you have heard good things about our school, which is wonderful! In many cases,
this is due to our vision and our five core Christian values that underpin everything we do in school:
respect, kindness, truth, forgiveness and thankfulness.
As a Church of England School, we are inclusive to all and serve those of faith and no faith. However,
we do need to reflect the fact that we are a Church of England School and that every child and family
will experience a journey of spirituality throughout their time with us. As such, our Vision needs to
be rooted firmly in the Christian Bible.
In Luke 2: 40-52 we see the example of Jesus: Luke 2.40 The child grew and became strong; he was
full of wisdom, and God’s blessings were upon him. Luke 2.51 Jesus grew both in body and in wisdom,
gaining favour with God and people.
At the age of twelve, Jesus travelled with Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem for the Feast of the
Passover. As they were returning home, they realised that Jesus was not with them. The city would
have been full of people, so it must have been quite a job to find Jesus. Mary and Joseph finally
found him in the Temple courts, absorbed in listening to the teachers and asking them questions.
Others were amazed at Jesus’ understanding, but his parents were just worried about their son.
This seems to be the first time Jesus struck out on his own faith. This would have been difficult for
his parents to understand. Jesus still needed to mature and grow before he was ready to begin his
ministry in the full sense. He returned home to obey his parents and grow in all areas humans must
grow in.
This is where we serve our purpose as educators – in helping children to grow and develop,
alongside our families.
Jesus demonstrates that as a 12-year-old he had developed and grown in body, in mind and in spirit.
We desire that our children grow in all aspects of their humanity, to become the best they can be as
they develop physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Proverbs 2. 6 states ‘It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding.’
with local charities and the community, we lift our children up every day, giving them individual and
personal opportunities to reach their full potential and be the best they can be.
- To promote our Christian Values and prepare children for their place in society and as lifelong learners.
- To provide an inviting, inclusive and friendly school environment where all members of the whole school community are valued and respect one another.
- To provide quality teaching and learning in a safe and nurturing environment, allowing each child to develop physically, personally and academically to their full potential.
- To emphasise the basic skills of mathematics, language and reading, within a creative curriculum which supports, develops and values the skills and interests of all children.
- To be dedicated to continuous improvement, challenging ourselves and always aspiring to be, “The best that we can be.”
