Anti-Racism Statement

There is no place for racism at Broomhaugh CofE First School.

Racism must be fought by everyone.

We are an anti-racist school and commit to addressing all forms of systemic and institutional inequalities, disadvantage and discrimination. We recognise that racism can take many forms, and be subtle and unconscious.

As Christians, we believe that all humans are made in the image of God. Therefore, any action that devalues a person is an insult to God, who created and loves that person.

So God created human beings, making them to be like himself (Genesis 1:27)

To truly tackle racism, we must scrutinise our environment, listen to others, recognise our privilege and commit to genuine change. We commit to approaching our journey with kindness, respect and courageous advocacy to enable every child to be the best that they can be.

Our school vision teaches us to be inspired by the example set by Jesus. Jesus shows that any kind of prejudice, racism, discrimination or simply treating people in an inferior way is not acceptable. Everyone is important to God and included in His plan of salvation, so people should not discriminate and treat others unfairly.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Paul’s Letter to the Galatians)

We will not tolerate racial discrimination from our pupils, families, staff or volunteers. We request anyone who has experienced or witnessed discrimination within Broomhaugh CofE First School to raise this with us and we promise to investigate and take appropriate action immediately.

As a school committed to ensuring everyone gets the best possible education, we cannot and will not be silent about racial discrimination.
